i wanna purchase an iphone. i do not have At&t and do not plan on getting it. can i purchase an iphone without getting a contract with at&t?

well i phone is exclusive to the att network, so if you dont want to get att then you cant activate an iphone elsewhere. if you want the iphone without the phone just get an ipod touch, because all that is, is an iphone without the phone

As has been said many times, no. iPhone 3G requires AT&T 2 year contract. Only work-around is an unlocked one which is about $690 to $790 USD.
