The most convenient and secure way is to use an iPod-to-computer transfer program to help you. This is how I did. I used Tansee iPod Transfer. I like its fast, entire and safe transfer. http://gutensoft.com/Utilities/Tansee-iP…
The whole process is simple. Simply install this program on your computer.
When you plug your iPod to the computer, this program could display all songs and videos on the iPod instantly. You simply select all and click "Copy" button. Done. All your selected files will be copied to your computer completely and safely. Now you can easily add those songs and videos to your iTunes library.
It even has step-by-step guide on the whole process:http://gutensoft.com/Guide/How-to-transf…
Hope it helps you, too.

yes i had this problem. Sorry if my explanation isn't exact but you should get the picture.
Create a new itunes if you don't already have one (start, all programs, itunes (then hold shift and press entre for 5 seconds until a box comes up with options to create a new folder). Next you have to connect your ipod and it should automatically come up saying your ipod is already synchronized with an itunes and it will give you the option to synchronize it with the new one by deleting all of the contents. Do not press anything here, instead go to my computer, then select your ipod. It should have accessories and some other stuff but not your songs. To get your songs go to tools, folder options, view, then chose show hidden files and folders. this should unlock ipod control. go into this select music. All your music should be stored in files such as f00, f01 etc. Highlight all of the boxes and move them somewhere else where you can put into your itunes later. Then you can close everything and start putting your songs back onto your itunes!
i hope ive helped!

itune blocks this function since itune is the tool with one way to transfer files from itune to ipod. you must utilize other tools to achieve that. There're couple of tools for transferring the files between ipod and computer (for backup)depends on your demands, e.g transfer only songs/videos, transfer photos etc. You can have a look of below review site, hope it useful.

I recommend this iPhone/iTouch/iPod to Computer Transfer. Many friends around me are using it and they recommened it to me. http://dvd-video-soft.com/ipodconverter/…
It enables you to Easily and quickly backup your songs, videos, photos, playlists, podcasts and more from your iTouch/iPhone/iPod to any folder on your PC.
I really like using it. You can give it a try, too.

Unbiased reviews and side-by-side comparisons of ipod transfer you are considering, and gives you enough information to research the ins and outs of a particular product, you can choose your favorite one here:http://www.mp3dvdsoft.com/ipodtopctransf…
GOOD LUCK!
