You can use an ipod to iTunes transfer program to help.I personally use this iPhone/iTouch/iPod to Computer/iTunes Transfer software. It helps me to transfer my songs/videos/photos from ipod to my computer iTunes directly and safely. It works well for me,you can give it a try.
    Free download it at: http://dvd-video-soft.com/ipodconverter/…
It even has step-by-step guide on the whole process.
    Hope it helps.

    Hello macaz84,
In order to protect copyright music, iTunes blocks you from transferring music from iPod back to iTunes.
So you need backup your iPod song to computer first. Then adds to your iTunes from computer.
Just get the software you need from here:http://www.ipod-to-computer.net/ipod-to-…
Step 1: Transfer your songs to a folder on your computer e.g. “C:/music” with a iPod Transfer tool.
If the music you want to backup is in your computer, just proceed to Step 2 directly.
Step 2: Run iTunes, click “File”, click “Add Files to Library…” or “Add Folder to Library…” , select the songs in folder C:/music.
Or simply run iTunes, Drag your files in “C:/music” to your iTunes music Library.
You can try it and I hope it can help you.

You can make it and all you need is a third party utility which i recommend Aniosoft ibackup. It enables you to transfer iPod’s music and other content to any storage device and iTunes as well. And both the backup in the storage device can be recovered and restored with no any change and no any risk. And the data in the iTunes is quite in accord with the iPod’s data including its playlists, rating and etc.
So in your case, you can make a music transfer from your iPod to the iTunes in your laptop with this tool and also make a backup for the ipod’s content somewhere in your laptop as well as backup file in case of the hard drive crash.
if you wanna free program i’d recommend yamipod, but with crash-prone defect.
There is a note that needs your attention, you have to turn off the auto sync of the iTunes before you can make this transfer.
for your convenience,i’ll add the link here:http://www.aniosoft.com
    Good luck to you.

Here is an easy way many of my friends use. That is to use this iPod to iTunes transfer programhttp://ipod-tool.com/ipod-software/jobos…
It was designed to help transfer music, videos, photos, playlists, podcasts and more from iPod to computer and iTunes. So you can use it to transfer music from your iPod back to your iTunes in a direct way. Then all files are on your iTunes, and you can sync smoothly without deleting any files.
This is easy and quick. I recommend you use it.
    Free Download to try:http://www.regnow.com/trialware/download…
    Best luck!

Try iDump, it’s free. But it does not support iPod Touch.
I personally used Tansee iPod Transfer http://www.gutensoft.com/Utilities/Tanse…
Many of my friends are using it for its easy and safe transfer.
More importantly, it won’t overwrite any original files on your iPod. And all song names are preserved. This is quite a special feature it ensures. It needs a small fee, but I think it’s worth it.
Here is step-by-step guide on the whole process:http://gutensoft.com/Guide/How-to-transf…
    Best luck!

You don’t even need software! Actually, I’d stay away from the software, because a lot of it is mostly spyware.
NOTE THAT THIS WILL NOT WORK IF THE MUSIC WAS ADDED ON A WINDOWS PC AND YOU’RE NOW USING A MAC, OR VICE VERSA.
    1. Open iTunes.
    2. HOLD CONTROL AND SHIFT and plug your iPod in. KEEP HOLDING THE BUTTONS UNTIL YOUR IPOD SHOWS UP.
    3. Click your iPod and check “Enable disk use.”
    4. Open up My Computer (Windows XP), Computer (Vista) or Finder (Mac).
    5. On Windows, click Tools > Folder Options, click the View tab, check “Show hidden files and folders,” and click OK. I don’t know how to do this on a Mac - look it up.
    6. Your iPod should now show up as a drive in My Computer/Computer/Finder. Open it.
    7. Copy the entire IPOD_CONTROL folder to your desktop.
    8. Right-click on the copy, click Properties, and uncheck “Hidden.” I don’t know how to do this on a Mac - look it up.
    9. In iTunes, make sure your preferences are set to copy files to the iTunes Music Folder when adding them to your library.
    10. Drag the copy into an open iTunes window. Wait for it to finish importing, analyzing, etc. then delete the copy from your desktop.
    11. If you had any iTunes purchased stuff, click Store > Authorize Computer and type your email and password that you purchased them with.
    12. Reverse step 5.
    13. Sync your new iPod.
    hope this helps!!

Try this software, it is free NO TRIAL and I even used to copy over a 1000 of my songs to my PC. Its a zip file so you need to right click it after downloading and exact it then the application is in the new folder
