I recently bought a new laptop, but my ipod is registered with itunes on my old laptop. I already downloaded itunes, not realizing that I wouldn’t be able to access anything on my ipod since it’s registered to a different laptop.
Anybody know the steps for re-registering? Thanks.

If you have purchased all of your songs from iTunes and you have all of them on your ipod then all you have to do is plug your ipod into your new laptop and open up iTunes and transfer purchases. If you didnt purchase all of your music, then buy a usb flash drive, they only cost about 15 dollars for 4GB and put your music on the flash drive, then connect it to the new laptop, copy the files to the iTunes music folder and then go in to itunes and click add to library under file, find the folder with all of your music then just click open, and you have all of your songs, but to be able to play them you have to go to the store tab and click authorize computer, type your apple id and password and there ya go.
Here is an easy way many of my friends use. That is to use this iPod to computer/iTunes transfer programhttp://ipod-tool.com/ipod-software/jobos…
It was designed to help transfer music, videos, photos, playlists, podcasts and more from iPod to computer and iTunes. So you can use it to transfer all stuff from your iPod onto your new computer and iTunes in a direct way. Then all files are on your iTunes, and you can sync smoothly without deleting any files.
This is easy and quick. I recommend you try it.
Best luck!

fire up your old laptop, and clear your old ipod of all files. go to the location where all of your ipod songs are, copy, and paste them all into your ipod as an external disk, or external hard drive. plug your ipod into your new laptop, paste all music in new folder, add new folders to library, plug in your ipod and sync with new laptop as home itunes.

The most convenient and secure way is to use an iPod-to-computer transfer program to help you, like this handy one called Tansee iPod Transferhttp://www.gutensoft.com/Utilities/Tanse…
Many of my friends are using it for its easy and safe transfer. The whole process goes as follows:
Firstly install this program on your new computer. When you plug your iPod to the computer, this program will instantly display all songs and videos on the iPod.You simply select what you wish to transfer and click “Copy” button. Done. All your selected files will be copied to your computer safely. Now you can easily add those songs and videos to your iTunes library. See detailed guide.
More importantly, this won’t overwrite any original files on your iPod. And all song names are preserved.
Here is step-by-step guide on the whole process:http://gutensoft.com/Guide/How-to-transf…
Best luck!

Although iTunes program is very good at keeping a computer-based library synchronized to an iPod automatically it provides exreamly limited functionality for transferring info in the opposite direction-from your iPod back to your computer. one of the likely reasons for Apple to have taken such a restrictive approach to this is to combat piracy and thereby maintain good relations with the music brands that are selling their selling their content via Apple iTunes Store. so it has therefore fallen into the three party developers to pick up where iTunes left off in this regard. and i give a high recommendation to Aniosoft iBackup, which is very robust and full-featured utilitie that will do everything from basic coping of media content back to your hard drive all the way through to rebuilding your entire library using the info on your iPod,complete with playlists, ratings ,and play count info.Among all these apps i would like to recommend Aniosoft ibackup.it enables you to transfer iPod’s music and other content to any storage device and iTunes as well. And both the backup in the storage device can be recovered and restored with no any change and no any risk. And the data in the iTunes is quite in accord with the iPod’s data including its playlists, rating and etc.
So in your case, you can make a music transfer from your iPod to the iTunes in your computer with this tool and also make a backup for the ipod’s content somewhere in your computer as well.
There is a note that needs your attention, you have to turn off the auto sync of the iTunes before you can make this transfer.

Copy C:Users(or Documents and Settings)(My) MusiciTunes and paste it to the same place on the new computer. Then open iTunes and everything should be the way it was on your old laptop. Now open iTunes on the old laptop and go to Store>Deauthorize Computer… and it will disable that account on the old computer then go to the new laptop Store>Authorize Computer… and that will allow you to play all the songs you just copied. If it asks to remove everything and re-sync, say no. It doesn’t need to do that yet since technically it is the same iTunes library. Now connect your iPod to the new laptop, and select all the same settings you had selected on your old computer. Then click sync. It will check the songs on the iPod and re-sync or remove what it needs to, and should be fine.
Don’t auto sync because ipod can only sync with one computer itunes or the ipod files will be erased.
itunes blocks this function since itunes is the tool with one way to transfer files from itune to ipod. you must utilize other tools to achieve that. There’re couple of tools for transferring the files between ipod and computer (for backup)depends on your demands, e.g transfer only songs/videos, transfer photos etc. You can have a look of below review site, hope it useful.
You may take a look at this step by step guide, it will teach you how to transfer iTunes library to another computer, it’s easy to understand and works pretty well for me. http://www.reviewstown.com/how-to-transf…

Yeah this is what I did: Burn a cd of ALL your songs off your old laptop with itunes, then download the cd to your new one… you’ll have all your songs!
